Fix A Squeaking Garage Door – Repair A Garage Door

If you own a house, it is nice to be able to do certain handyman jobs, because there always seems to be something that needs fixing. One typical problem that bothers everybody in the house until it’s fixed is a squeaky door. It’s the kind of thing you prefer to take care of yourself, and not have to call a repairman.

Initially you have to determine where the squeak is coming from, since you need that information before you can fix it. Before you decide to replace the whole door, providing it is still good enough to use, conduct the swing test. Try and pinpoint the actual source of the squeak by means of listening carefully as you swing the door back and forth. Generally, you’ll be able to audibly hear the loudest place where the noise is coming from, and by that, figure out what the cause is. If you listen intently, while you are swinging the door at various speeds, you should be able to determine the exact cause of the squeak.

One common source of door squeaks is the importance of lubrication of the hinges. every one of the screws, and then get yourself a flat screwdriver to loosen-up the hinge pins, and put some sewing machine oil, or WD-40 onto the hinge. Sway the door backwards and forwards slowly as the oil seeps into the hinge. If this was the issue, the oil should have fixed it. If it still makes noise, there’s another likely place to look. At times the squeak might be induced by wood rubbing against other wood. This situation may occur if the door is swollen due to high humidity. If this is the cause, just relocate the door stop to keep it from hitting the door. The things you need to achieve this is a block of wood and a hammer. Use the hammer together with the wood block to pound the door stop over slightly.

Keep going with it ’til the door performs quietly and smoothly. The major problem in doing this, is that you will most likely break the paint, and needs to be repainted. If you are really pressed for time, then choose quality information over quantity, always. Since you know what you need about this, then be careful you do not waste time in other areas. At least until your knowledge is broader, try to determine what directly applies to you if possible. One more culprit may well be a hinge actually rubbing up against the door jam, maybe because it’s not cut in deeply enough, or it’s too deep. Should this be true, take the hinges off and cut them in more deeply, or place a shim in behind the hinges if they’re cut too deep. By means of this testing process you should be able to quickly and easily repair any door squeak.

If it is not a simple repair, the whole door may need replacing. This is a relatively easy process if your door is of the pre-hung form. Achieving this though, you need to get doors that match up, and spend quite a bit of time repainting. The main thing is to do it yourself, and do it properly.
